The Easiest Way to the Athenian Beaches

We had already visited Athens' most famous landmarks—such as the Parthenon, the various temples, and the Plaka district. It was all beautiful, but since it was summer, we were really itching to hit the beach—to swim and relax after all that walking and hiking.
So, we decided to go explore the beaches of Athens!
And yes, it was absolutely worth the trip.
We discovered an excellent option: the panoramic sightseeing buses. They depart from the main plaza in Plaka and run every 15 minutes. In addition to touring the city itself, they also run a coastal route, making stops at both public beaches and more exclusive beach clubs. During the summer season, their schedule runs from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM. We absolutely loved that!
We hopped on the "Blue" line bus, which runs along the coast, and rode the entire route—there and back again. We started in the public beach zone and then ventured further out into the quieter, more exclusive beach areas. There are options to suit everyone: whether you prefer to mingle with locals at the earlier stops or are looking for something a bit more tranquil at the stops further down the route.

While some beaches are relatively close to the city—and you could certainly take a taxi or brave the public transport system—they aren't within walking distance of the city center.
Beyond just providing transportation, these panoramic buses offer audio guides via headphones, sharing route information and interesting facts along the way, plus the amazing views. We found this to be a very comfortable and practical way to learn about the city's history and discover its hidden gems.

If you’d also like to explore Athens using these panoramic sightseeing buses, I’ve included our link below to help you purchase your tickets easily and securely, we recommend it because this is the very same tour we did.
Happy Travels!
