Corniglia: The Elevated Charm

Corniglia is a charming and unique village in the Cinque Terre, Italy, known for its tranquil atmosphere and stunning hillside setting. Unlike other villages, Corniglia is perched atop a dramatic promontory, surrounded by terraced vineyards and overlooking the Ligurian Sea.
It is the only village in the Cinque Terre that is not directly accessible by boat, which has helped preserve its peaceful, authentic character. Featuring narrow, winding streets, colorful houses, and beautiful panoramic views from the terraces and viewpoints, visitors have a challenge to climb the long stairs up to the top of the village - and we did it!
How to arrive?
By Train: The most popular and straightforward way is to take the train on the Cinque Terre Railway line. Trenitalia operates regular trains connecting Corniglia with other villages such as Vernazza, Manarola, Riomaggiore, and Monterosso, as well as major cities like La Spezia, Genoa, Pisa, and Florence.
The train station is located near the village, making it easy to access.
By Car: Driving to Corniglia is possible, but parking is limited and often located in designated areas outside the village. From there, you'll need to walk up the famous steep stairs or paths to reach the town center. During peak seasons, parking can be challenging.
By Bus: Local buses connect Corniglia with other villages and nearby towns, providing an alternative to the train, especially if traveling from inland areas.
By Hiking: If you're feeling adventurous, you can hike to Corniglia along scenic trails such as the Sentiero Azzurro (Blue Trail), which offers stunning views of the coast and vineyards. The trail from Vernazza or Manarola is popular among hikers.
Overall: The train is generally the easiest and most efficient way to reach Corniglia, especially if you're traveling from other parts of Italy or nearby cities.
