Pica: The Hidden Oasis in the Desert

A one-day trip to Pica, the hidden oasis in the desert, offers an unforgettable adventure through the stunning landscapes of northern Chile.
It takes two hours by car to get there from the city of Iquique, and the route crosses the desert completely, so it is essential to be well prepared.

Our day began with a scenic drive from Iquique, enjoying views of the arid desert transforming into lush greenery as you approach Pica. Stopped really quick to get breakfast and hydrated in the famous food trucks of the desert, which was delicious, and kept going.
Once we arrived in Pica around 10 am, explored the famous thermal baths, renowned for their relaxing and therapeutic properties, nestled amidst palm groves and rocky formations.

After the bath, we took a stroll through the charming town, visited local markets, and learned about the area's rich history and culture.

In the afternoon, we enjoyed the unique desert scenery, with a short hike and a visit to nearby Dinosaur Park. It was really fun to see those huge statues standing right in the middle of the desert. Nearby in the park, there are little shops selling refreshing treats, ice cream and water - much needed in this weather.

As the day ended, we returned to Iquique with memories of a tranquil oasis tucked away in the heart of the desert. This trip was amazing and for us, the first time ina real desert and real oasis, which stayed in our hearts forever.
