Is Split Worth Visiting Without
a Cruise Excursion?

When planning a Mediterranean cruise, one of the biggest questions is whether to book a shore excursion at every port.
During our recent summer cruise, we discovered that sometimes the simplest plans can lead to wonderful experiences.
When our ship arrived in Split, Croatia, we decided to explore independently instead of booking an organized excursion.
Our plan was simple: find a beautiful beach, enjoy the Mediterranean sunshine, and spend a relaxing day together.
And that's exactly what we did!

Exploring Split on Our Own

One of the things we enjoyed most about our visit was the freedom to organize our day.
We didn't have a tour schedule to follow or a group to keep up with.
Instead, we walked from our cruise terminal toward Bacvice Beach, a popular public beach near the port. The walk took us approximately 12 minutes.

Before we knew it, we were standing in front of the beautiful Adriatic Sea.
No tax, bus, or complicated arrangements.
Just a short walk and a wonderful destination waiting for us.

Discovering Bačvice Beach

When we arrived, we immediately appreciated the beautiful surroundings.
The water was incredibly clear, and the summer weather was perfect for a beach day.
We could see the rocks beneath the surface, and the sea looked inviting.

The beach was lively but relaxing, with visitors swimming, sunbathing, and enjoying the sunshine. The place had everything we could need nearby, from restrooms to ice cream!
We spent several hours there, taking our time and appreciating the experience.
For us, this was exactly what a vacation should feel like.

Was Skipping a Cruise Excursion Worth It?

For our plans that day, absolutely!
We wanted a peaceful beach experience rather than a packed sightseeing schedule.
Exploring independently allowed us to choose how to spend our time.
We could swim, relax, enjoy the scenery, and leave whenever we were ready.
We also avoided the cost of an organized shore excursion.

Of course, guided tours can be a great choice for travelers who want to discover Split's history and famous landmarks.
Our visit was different.
We chose to focus on one beautiful coastal location rather than trying to see everything in a single day.
And we were very happy with that decision.

Who Would Enjoy This Experience?

Based on our visit, this independent beach day could be a great choice for:
Couples looking for a relaxing Mediterranean escape.
Families who want to enjoy the beach without paying for an organized excursion.
Budget-conscious travelers looking for free or affordable activities.
Cruise passengers who prefer a flexible schedule.
Beach lovers who would rather spend time by the water than follow a busy itinerary.

The short walk worked well for us, although travel times and accessibility may vary depending on where your ship docks.

This is the kind of travel experience we love sharing with our readers.
