Grotte di Labante: A Hidden Gem Near Bologna

Grotte di Labante waterfall near Bologna Italy
The Labante Caves -Grotte di Labante- are in Castel d'Aiano, in the Bolognese Apennines, less than 50 km from Bologna. The best way to visit is by car, especially nice in Spring and Autum.
They are especially interesting for their travertine formations — a particular type called Sponga — the waterfall that falls into the main cavity, and the small Grotta dei Tedeschi, where there are stalactites.
