Port of Cartagena

Cartagena is a wonderful city to explore on foot starting from the port because many of its key attractions are within walking distance, allowing you to experience its rich history and charming atmosphere at a leisurely pace.

The city’s compact layout means you can easily stroll through narrow medieval streets, admire historic buildings, and enjoy scenic waterfront views without needing transportation.
However, we decided to take a little train tour to reach some more distant areas of the city, and it was super nice! The tickets can be purchased right in the port exit where you will see the little train stop.

Here are 5 must-see attractions near the port of Cartagena, which can be easily visited by walking nearby within 5 to 10 minutes from the port.

1. Roman Theatre (Teatro Romano)

Just a short walk from the port, this well-preserved ancient Roman theatre is one of the city's most iconic landmarks. It dates back to the 1st century BC and offers a fascinating glimpse into Cartagena's ancient history.

2. El Zulo Statue and Park

Located near the city’s historic center, the statue represents a modern artistic interpretation, often symbolizing themes of local culture, history, or social commentary, and is a distinctive feature in the urban landscape. It is typically situated in a lively public space or plaza, surrounded by cafes, shops, and pedestrian areas, making it a convenient spot to relax and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of Cartagena.

3. Port and Waterfront Promenade

Stroll along the lively waterfront area, where you can enjoy views of the marina, watch boats come and go, and relax in cafes or plazas. It’s a vibrant spot to soak in the maritime atmosphere and take in the scenic coastline.

4. Muralla del Mar

Perched near the port, this scenic spot provides a perfect place to relax and enjoy the sea breeze while taking in the beautiful vistas of the bay, ships, and nearby beaches. The mirador is also a great spot for photographs and for appreciating Cartagena’s maritime heritage, with the fortress walls adding a touch of historical charm to the breathtaking scenery. It’s an ideal place for a peaceful pause during your exploration of the city.

5. Concepción Castle (Castillo de la Concepción)
