Visiting Dubrovnik Cruise Port Without an Excursion

We had heard so much about this beautiful coastal city. We were excited to discover its historic streets, impressive city walls, and breathtaking Adriatic coastline.
Instead of booking an organized cruise excursion, we decided to explore Dubrovnik on our own.
Our plan was simple: visit the Old Town, enjoy the local atmosphere, and spend part of the afternoon relaxing at the beach.
It turned out to be a wonderful day!

Getting from Dubrovnik Cruise Port to Old Town

After leaving our cruise ship, we took a taxi toward Dubrovnik's historic center.
The taxi cost us €25 for the ride. It was a convenient way to start our day without worrying about organized transportation or following a tour group's schedule.
However, the cruise also offered transfers for about $20 per person.
Once we arrived near the Old Town, we were ready to explore at our own pace.
For us, the freedom to decide where to go and how long to stay was one of the best parts of the experience.

Exploring Dubrovnik's Historic Old Town

Walking through Dubrovnik's Old Town was one of the highlights of our visit.
The historic buildings, stone streets, and impressive medieval walls created a wonderful atmosphere. We took a break to enjoy a coffee and appreciate the atmosphere.
The city felt full of history, yet lively and welcoming among the local markets, bazaars, and small shops.

A Beautiful Afternoon at the Beach

After exploring the historic center, we decided to spend the afternoon by the sea.
We walked beyond the Old Town and reached the beautiful Banje Beach; it was about 20 minutes' walk. The scenery was spectacular!
The Adriatic water looked inviting, and the summer weather was perfect for relaxing.
We found a beach area with public access and several convenient services.
There were free options for visitors who simply wanted to enjoy the beach, along with paid amenities such as lounge chairs and umbrellas.
This made it possible to choose between a simple beach experience and a more comfortable setup.
It was the perfect way to balance sightseeing with relaxation.

Returning to Our Cruise Ship

After our beach afternoon, it was time to return to the ship.
We took another taxi back to the cruise terminal. This ride cost us €35.
The return trip was convenient and allowed us to finish our day without worrying about a long walk back to the port.
Of course, we always allow extra time to return before the ship's boarding deadline.

Dubrovnik was one of those destinations that reminded us why we love traveling.
We arrived with a simple plan and left with wonderful memories.
Sometimes, the best cruise experiences are the ones you create yourself.
