Must-see Places to Visit in Rotterdam
as a Cruise Stop

The cruise terminal in Rotterdam is centrally located, making it easy for passengers to explore the city upon disembarkation. Public transportation, including trams, buses, and taxis, are readily available to take visitors to key sights and neighborhoods, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free experience.
For our itinerary, we decided to first take the train right in front of the cruise terminal to Rotterdam Central, and from there we did our walking tour.
Here are some of our favorite spots to see in Rotterdam:
The Market Hall (Markthal): The large arch-shaped building that combines a vibrant food market with housing and office spaces. Its most distinctive feature is the massive, colorful mural on the interior ceiling, showcasing a variety of fruits, vegetables, and food items. Inside, visitors can explore a wide range of fresh produce, gourmet foods, and specialty shops, making it a popular destination for locals and tourists alike.

The Cube Houses (Kubuswoningen): These unique, cube-shaped homes are tilted at a 45-degree angle and rest on hexagonal pylons, creating a striking and playful skyline. The houses are part of a residential complex that resembles a forest of giant, colorful cubes.

Old Port Centre (Oudehaven): Located in the Maritime District along the Maas River, it is one of the oldest harbors in the Netherlands, with the first jetty dating back to around 1350. The place is very picturesque and full of restaurants and pubs around to enjoy the views.

Beurs: Referred to as the City’s Central Business & Shopping Hub, it is now a major business and shopping complex in the heart of the city. Walking through its long, wide corridors becomes a truly chic experience, admiring the shops of famous brands and the unique structure.

Erasmus Bridge (The Swan): An iconic symbol of the city, perfect for photos and enjoying the skyline views. This was the last stop on our itinerary, and yes, it would have been easier to return to the port by public transport, but we wanted to cross the bridge on foot and take in the breathtaking views from above.

The entire tour took approximately one hour on foot, plus the time we spent at each location. It was 100% worth it, as we were able to appreciate details of the city that you don't usually see when traveling by public transport. Highly recommended if, like us, you want to immerse yourself in Rotterdam's culture.
