The Heart of Holland's Cheese and History

The city’s medieval center is characterized by narrow cobblestone streets, beautiful churches, and scenic canals that weave through the city, creating a postcard-perfect landscape. It is easily accessible by train from major cities such as Rotterdam and Amsterdam.
Gouda’s canals add to its scenic charm, offering canal tours that provide a unique perspective of the city’s historic architecture and lush landscapes. These boat trips often pass by old merchant houses, quaint bridges, and lush green surroundings, showcasing the city’s scenic beauty from the water.

A highlight of the Gouda experience is visiting the traditional cheese shops and markets, where artisans have been producing Gouda cheese for centuries. We found a very nice store where we could sample different varieties, learn about cheese-making, and purchase authentic Gouda cheese to take home...well...many of them!

The city's historic center is ideal for exploring on foot, allowing visitors to discover its beautiful architecture, charming streets, and picturesque canals without spending hours traveling between different sites, which makes it easy to visit the city in a single day.
Definitely a must-see if you're in Holland and if you love cheese as much as we do!
